A recent update has sparked excitement among gamers, particularly fans of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. The new Version 1.004 is now live, introducing support for the PS5 Pro alongside enhanced visual features that elevate the gaming experience. Many top titles for the PlayStation 5 are being updated to integrate with the anticipated console, with games like The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered receiving similar enhancements.
The latest Spider-Man 2 update, shared by developer Insomniac Games, rolls out two new graphics options: Performance Pro and Fidelity Pro. The default setting for the PS5 Pro is Performance Pro mode, which aims for 60 frames per second while also incorporating the graphical enhancements found in the Fidelity mode for the standard PS5. This includes PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, for improved upscaling.
Additionally, all ray-tracing features—such as reflections for water and windows—are activated by default, making this mode suitable for the majority of players. On the other hand, Fidelity Pro mode is designed for gamers who want to maximize their visual quality. This mode targets 30 frames per second and brings in new ray-tracing features, alongside increased densities for pedestrians and traffic.
It also enhances character hair quality. Players can individually adjust several features to suit their preferred frame rates and make use of variable refresh rate displays. Among the adjustable features are RT Key Light Shadows, RT Reflections & Interiors, and RT Ambient Occlusion. The first option is exclusive to Fidelity Pro mode and utilizes ray-tracing technology to deliver more natural-looking shadows over medium to long distances, thereby enhancing the vistas of the cityscape.
RT Reflections & Interiors allow users to select between Medium or High settings, with High being a Fidelity Pro exclusive. This selection affects the resolution of the ray-traced reflections and the details of building window interiors. Lastly, RT Ambient Occlusion can either be disabled or set to Medium or High, utilizing ray-tracing to augment ambient occlusion effects.
The developer has noted that the visual impact varies significantly depending on the scene, suggesting that disabling this feature could be an effective approach for those seeking an easier way to boost performance in Fidelity Pro mode. For those eager to experience the PS5 Pro first-hand upon its launch, pre-orders are currently available through various retailers.
