Pixar Revives Animated Blooper Tradition with Elio's Playful Behind-the-Scenes Moments

Pixar has decided to revive a playful tradition with the upcoming animated film Elio, reintroducing a style of behind-the-scenes fun that hasn't been seen in over twenty years. This move brings a nostalgic and lighthearted element to an era that once featured special blooper segments.

It may seem unusual to showcase outtakes in an animated production since every frame is carefully designed, and errors typical of live-action filming are not usually captured. Even the scenes that are eventually removed often come from the early and exploratory stages of animation.

In the past, Pixar intentionally crafted humorous blooper sequences to add a layer of realism and amusement to its films. For example, one memorable moment included a famous spaceman character discovering his helmet had been amusingly altered with a marker, while another featured a character unexpectedly startling another by hiding in a closet. These entertaining segments "enhanced the allure and genuine character of the" movies.

For more than two decades, these playful reels were absent from Pixar's releases. That is, until now. A recent clip reveals that the long-awaited film Elio will include a fresh set of humorous mishaps. The clip presents several amusing moments, such as:

  • Extraterrestrial characters stumbling over their lines.
  • A protagonist who playfully moves closer to the camera.
  • Chaotic set pieces that comically fall apart.

Audiences can look forward to experiencing additional unexpected antics in the behind-the-scenes reel when Elio debuts on the 20th of June, promising a delightful nod to Pixar’s tradition of animated mischief.
