Avatar: Fire and Ash Climbs to Box Office Legend Status

This animated film has surpassed even the loftiest hopes, earning its place as one of the the nine films that have generated the highest box office returns in history. While many might have predicted that Avatar: Fire and Ash would outshine its competitor based on past record-breaking series earnings, this sequel has steadily defied expectations by dominating the box office.

Since premiering in November 2025, this installment has demonstrated impressive staying power. Now, well into January, it has not only secured its status as the most successful animated feature released by its studio but also outpaced another recent hit and surged to ninth place on the list of highest-grossing films ever.

Based on Box Office Mojo's data, the film has… accumulated a staggering $1.706 billion in revenue, firmly positioning it within the top ten. To move any higher, it would need an additional $200 million to close the gap with Spider-Man: No Way Home. Meanwhile, Avatar 3 lags behind, with current ticket sales pushing its lifetime total to $1.322 billion.

Have you experienced this animated phenomenon, and does its impressive box office run catch you by surprise?
